A Valentine thang

Taylor and I have plotted a pretty rad Valentine's Day pop up to make this holiday very easy for you. We have some crazy pretty flowers in mind. The BEST of the season for sure. We've been asking our suppliers to find some amazing product and running around to find beautiful begonias, ferns, orchids...

We're going to put it all together in perfect packages tied up with velvet ribbon! VELVET! So, don't be silly and try to play it cool for Valentine's Day. We want to hook you up with some pretty arrangements.

All happening at the convenient pick up spot of Barber + Supply at 101 N. 8th in Williamsburg. Get a shave and a bouquet before taking your lovey out to dinner. Don't mess this up. It's so easy.

Preorder at afoxandapear@gmail.com. You can pick up the goods on Feb 13th from 4pm-8pm and Feb 14th noon-8pm.

making meetings

It's a funny time of year. Spending more time in front of the computer than in front of a work table. Making meetings, taking meetings, having meetings about other meetings - at the studio, at coffee shops, if i'm lucky - at a bar with decent wine. The process. So many steps.

When I sit with people and talk to them about their flowers, I paint a picture in my head. The colors, the season, the venue, the people - it all kind of comes together helping me figure out what their flowers, tables, etc. are going to look like. Turning those images into language and articulating those imaginations are quite complex. It's fun when it's effortless. Yet sometimes it's rather challenging to take something so purely visual and explain it.

I suppose that's what all these meetings are about. Convincing, explaining, soliciting trust. Using words and some photos to help people get inside my own head, and dump the images I see, artfully, into their heads. I had a fun break from meetings to make some arrangements today. Caught the light, chased it, and got a few photos with my BRAND NEW LENS. Money solves all problems. wink wink.

**oh, this happened a couple weeks ago. bonkers.

1-2-13

Happy 2013! I've eaten several helpings of french fries, a BLT, and have yet to exercise at all. Off to a great start here.

I never make typical resolutions because I know I'll just break them and I prefer not to disappoint myself. So I made one resolution - to keep my stupid cell phone off dinner tables. It sounds small, but it implies a lot. I want to focus on my company, my food, my wine, the experience that is really happening and not let the ding or the light of the phone take me away from it.

I read this article a few weeks back and while it's a bit self-indulgent, I think the principle is a good one. We have become so ADD. So focussed on what's happening outside our own experiences and instead inside our candy phones. I'm no exception. I'm terrible. My brother started, in jest, to call me iLiza which really pissed me off. I excuse it with work. I have to respond to this client. I have to email in this order. I just have to see what's happening on instagram. I call bullshit on myself. I don't really have to do any of these things. Everything can wait at least a couple hours to happen. Even in crazy fast paced NYC.

So my simple resolution is about focus. Which I think will aid my work, help me enjoy my friends, really see things on my trips, and not crash when I drive. No phones on dinner tables! Happy new year, everyone!

*These photos were taken in Hudson, NY last weekend with and mostly by my dear friend Courtney. I'll elaborate on that fun soon.
